Kombucha, Anyone?
On Facebook, OrangeTV is singing the praises of a new place opening in Midtown that’s dedicated to Kombucha. Which, according to
Wikipedia, “is a lightly
effervescent
fermented drink
of sweetened
black tea
that is used as a
functional food
. It is produced by fermenting the tea using a
symbiotic
colony of
bacteria
and
yeast
, or ‘
SCOBY
.’ Although kombucha is claimed to have several beneficial effects on health, these claims are not supported by scientific evidence.” OTV adds in his comment section: ” …
there are MANY flavors of Kombucha possible (mainly fruit oriented), hence the idea of a solely-devoted shop. So far, it has been available locally only at Pilgrims Market and a select handful of larger gro
cery stores. It’s kind of sour and weird, but it is an acquired taste and does give you a rush of healthful feelings that’s hard to describe to those who haven’t tried it.

Question: Has anyone out there tried Kombucha? Can a store dedicated to Kombucha make it in Coeur d’Alene?
