Support Initiative 601

Initiative 601 will allow taxpayers to electronically make partial payments of any amount at any time and remove the major penalties of 11 percent. Currently, taxpayers who are delinquent pay 23 percent in penalty and interest during the first 12 months.

This initiative will greatly enhance the taxpayers’ ability to manage their own finances and stay current on their taxes. The last thing we want to do is foreclose. It is inconceivable to me why we are required to charge taxpayers 23 percent at any time, let alone during this period of record low rates. In short: It’s usury.

I endorse Initiative 601 and ask that residents consider volunteering to collect signatures or make an affordable donation. Please go to www.yeson601.com for further information on this timely effort.
