KCSD: Hydro Buoys Need To Go
Lt. Stu Miller of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department has an answer for Beeranager, who wondered why the orange-and-white, no-wake buoys remain from the Diamond Cup hydroplane races on Lake Coeur d’Alene:
“The Department of Lands and I have sent messages and called Diamond Cup organizers to have them removed ASAP since they are causing a navigational hazard to boaters. Several of them have been run over, relocated or become dislodged. According to the plan submitted to the DOL by the Diamond Cup organizers, they were supposed to have been removed within 5 days of the completion of the race. They, Diamond Cup, have also been told that they could be liable for any accidents or damage caused by the buoys being left in the water. We are hopeful that they will be removed before the weekend, if not, we will remove them and they could face monetary sanctions by the DOL as well as future permit considerations/conditions by the permitting agencies. Hope this clears things up.”
