Hang up and drive
With regard to your editorial on distracted driving, I couldn’t help but notice the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration survey reported 48 percent of drivers queried responded they would answer a call or text while driving. This is more than unacceptable; it’s proof that those 48 percent are oblivious to the danger they put themselves and others in.
Repeated studies prove that humans cannot multitask as efficiently as some would think. When you get behind the wheel, you’re there to do one thing and one thing only: operate a motor vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
If Spokane County and law enforcement could see it clear, I would be more than willing to capture these rolling violations on video, along with plate numbers, and submit them to the proper departments for evaluation and mailing of a citation. On the other hand, a grass-roots effort might be in order to convince auto manufacturers that, while adding more distracting devices to their products might sell them initially, consumers dying because of these additions don’t make the best repeat buyers.
People, hang up and drive!
