Glad to stay out of Syria

Michael Hart’s letter on Sept. 18 (“Good guys holster guns”) begs a response from a conservative and National Rifle Association member.

Why is it up to us to police the world’s ills? The money you are so willing to spend is in the form of our troops. President Barack Obama, as our commander in chief, could have ordered a response if he had wished. I, for one, am very glad he didn’t.

You’re right in saying that we are being weak, but that is because we have very weak leadership. Survival of the fittest is a fine cliché, but are we the only “fit” power in the world? We are the “good guy” with the guns; when we use them, is the world ready to say, “Good job. You righted a very great wrong”? Not by a long shot. We are condemned for being the “bully on the block.”

You’re right, I don’t have much “backbone” when it comes to putting our troops in harm’s way at the drop of a hat. Why don’t you send a letter to Vladimir Putin and ask him to send in his army to prevent the slaughter of innocent people.
