Obamacare is a win

Kenneth Varcoe’s April 14 comments regarding “Obamacare is a failure” are just more of the same tired Republican talking points we hear on an almost daily basis. And, as usual, the misstatements he presented as fact lack any documentation to back them up.

The fact is, millions now have health care for themselves and their families with far more comprehensive coverage than before, e.g. no more restrictions on pre-existing conditions, no more caps on benefits and a whole slew of free preventive-care services. Thousands of lives are being saved due to medical treatment they didn’t have before. And these people are now contributing financially to cost of their health care, which reduces the cost to those of us who have been paying their way via emergency room care. And don’t forget about the thousands of new health care-related jobs that are being created.

This law is a win for all us. Embrace it and encourage others to take advantage of the benefits.
