Sho-Con: State Should Investigate
Shoshone Conservative (RE: Local Democrats blast county clerk’s filing procedure change ): They were told they have to turn in their forms in person? I’ve never heard of such a rule, and I’d question whether the County Clerk has the authority to do this. In my county, for example, since I live and work in Wallace, many running for P.C. will give me their filing form when they see me, and I’ve turned it in for them no problem. We have P.C.’s in Avery and Clarkia who met someone half-way who took the form and dropped it off at the courthouse for them. As far as I know, it’s perfectly legal to mail it in, have someone drop it off, dispatch a carrier pigeon - just as long as it crosses that counter at the Courthouse by 5:00 on the filing deadline. The Secretary of State should definitely look into this.
DFO: Just a thought. The county clerk’s office is pretty good re: circulating news releases about elections. I wonder why an important procedure change like the one we’re dealing with here was subject to a news release?
Question: Do you think the Secretary of State’s office should investigate the change in filing procedure put in place by County Clerk Jim Brannon?
