F-Bomb Ruins Prep Baseball Game

In a letter to the Coeur d’Alene Press today, Darla Bowers of Post Falls wrote: “On Monday I attended the Post Falls versus Coeur d’Alene varsity baseball game. I sat past the third base dugout to watch the game. In the sixth inning, Coeur d’Alene had back-to-back home runs. As the young man from Coeur d’Alene was running past second base on his victory trot, he yelled something like “GO F@#$ING BALL.” I was shocked and asked for confirmation of what I thought I heard from a Post Falls player who was warming up near me. He confirmed what I heard. As the Coeur d’Alene player rounded third base toward home, the umpire correctly indicated that he would be removed from the game. The Coeur d’Alene coach argued and in the end, I am not sure if he was removed from the game or not. I am disgusted at the lack of sportsmanship displayed during this home run. Please, coaches and parents, teach the student-athletes the importance of being competitive and maintaining good sportsmanship. I graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School but I am embarrassed to say this is my alma mater. Character counts!

Question: Do you think sportsmanship still matters in high school competition?
