Adopt military displays

I just returned from Southern California. While down there, in the cities of Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley, there was something that immediately caught my eye, and heart.

On their main streets, there was hanging from every street light pole, a color banner, probably 5 feet by 2 feet. The caption on top was “Hometown Heroes.” Below was a color military picture of the people from the area serving our country. Below the picture was the branch that person was in. And on the bottom, it listed the sponsors who paid for that banner.

Driving around those California towns sent a sense of pride and patriotism through me.

Spokane could easily do the same, with banners of people from Spokane and Eastern Washington who are serving.

That line of banners should go all the way up Division Street. In downtown there could be a set of banners on every street of those serving at Fairchild Air Force Base, including the city/state they are from, and Riverfront Park could have banners of those who paid the ultimate price.

In any case, not a single council member, nor anyone from the Greater Spokane Incorporated, has bothered to respond to my suggestion.
