Huckleberry harvest epic by all reports

WILD EDIBLES — The huckleberry crop was just coming into top picking form when I left the country a few weeks ago, as I pointed out in this Outdoors column .

I’ve had three reports from friends in the few hours since I’ve been back and they’re all raving about this year’s mountain crop of berries in the Selkirks, Cabinets and Bitterroots.

The photo from Sandpoint outdoorsman Jim Mellen (above) seems to tell the story.

And Montana outdoor photographer Jaime Johnson just rubbed it in with his shot of the delicious beautifully bagged raw ingredients for two huckleberry pies that will brighten feasts in coming months.
