Andrus Center to host Conference on Women and Leadership

The Andrus Center for Public Policy at Boise State University will present a Conference on Women and Leadership Sept. 10-12 featuring an array of prominent speakers, from retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to four-star Admiral Michelle Howard, vice chair of operations for the U.S. Navy,  to Dr. Ellen Ochoa, director of the Johnson Space Center, to award-winning film producer Frieda Mock.

ANDRUS CENTER TO PRESENT WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will headline three days of presentations by some of America’s most distinguished women at the Andrus Center Conference on Women and Leadership on Sept. 10-12 .

Other notable speakers include U.S. Navy Adm. Michelle J. Howard, award-winning film producer Freida Mock and Morgan Stanley Vice Chair and Managing Director Carla Harris.

The conference will take place in the Boise State University Student Union Building.

The theme of the conference “What is Success?” is designed to motivate and educate women on leadership and success. The conference focuses on the accomplishments of women leaders from business, government, science, the media and other fields and provides unique perspectives on women in leadership positions.

•    Karen Crouse, New York Times sports journalist
•    Judith Freeman, award-winning author
•    Zelda Geyer-Sylvia, president and CEO, Blue Cross of Idaho

•    Caroline Heldman, chair, Department of Politics, Occidental College
•    Christine Kunewa Walker, producer and president of New Globe Films
•    Victoria Lipnic, commissioner, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
•    Tami Longaberger, chair of the board, The Longaberger Company
•    Col. Sherrie L. McCandless, commander of the 124th Fighter Wing, Idaho Air National Guard
•    Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, founder and CEO of PACE, chairman of the board of the American Red Cross and former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Finland
•    Barbara Morgan, Boise State University’s Distinguished Educator in Residence
•    Ellen Ochoa, director of the Johnson Space Center

The Andrus Center is providing a limited number of student scholarships for the conference. High schools, community colleges, vocational schools and universities are invited to participate in the program on a first-come, first-serve basis. University faculty members also may schedule a time to bring a class to one or more sessions in the Hatch Ballroom.

In the nearly 20 years since its founding, the Andrus Center has convened conferences, produced research and analysis and served as common ground for civil, serious discussion about public policy and major issues of our times.
