Lip service for education

Regarding the Nov. 23 headline: Why shouldn’t these kids have to wait in line to get into school? In a country that pays a football player $9 million a year and will barely pay a teacher a living wage, what else can be expected?

Although it has been proven over and over that kindergarten is important to children, Americans still will only reluctantly fund kindergarten in this country. Having taught for nearly 40 years, it is obvious that Americans only pay lip service to education.

Skimp and save is the rule. Crowd the kids into the classroom and then complain that they aren’t learning anything. Perhaps the teachers in this country need to walk out en masse until proper schools, small classes and enough equipment are funded.
