Use safe gun habits

Regarding the Nov. 19 front page photo of the gun auction: That photo displays a very important safety violation. Follow these safety tips and most or all problems may be eliminated every time.

First, always keep your finger out of the trigger guard unless you are on target and ready to fire. Second, never point it at anything you don’t want to shoot, even unloaded. Third, someone hands you a gun and says it’s unloaded; unless they actually showed you, check it yourself by opening it up. Hand a gun open to someone every time.

Fourth, lock them up 24/7 unless it is on your person. Leaving it in a nightstand or the car is negligent and allows bad people access to your gun. A safe should be part of the purchase. Lock boxes for cars are available.

These four things are what you can do to be part of the solution. If you observe these four things like clockwork, you will always have success and be safe.
