Let our people ski

The Washington State Parks Commission decision in favor of expansion of the Mount Spokane ski area is a great victory for the citizens of Eastern Washington. The decision demonstrates that sound environmental stewardship and sustainable winter recreation are not mutually exclusive goals.

Countless hours of oral testimony and thousands of written comments generated by the community were considered. Environmental impacts were studied in great depth and given the highest priority. Cultural factors were taken into account. But in the end, perhaps it was the spirit of the mountain itself that provided the strongest testimony.

For those with ears to hear, the spirit of the mountain clearly said, “Let my people ski!”
