A Scanner’s View Of Life
On her Facebook page,
Kerri Thoreson posts:
“At my computer doing book research in the
7 a.m hour,
listening to the morning news with
dispatchers’ voices in the background from the scanner. My
attention turns to the voices coming across the scanner and in that moment I
realize that for one family,
life as they knew it has forever changed. A wife makes a 9-1-1 call,
frightened young children and a husband who is not breathing and
unresponsive. Officers in route,
medical in route … time passes and the officer requests a
chaplain to respond to the scene. Coroner is called
out,
and the rotation funeral home is notified. Right now I don’t know any
names but what I do know is that in a community such as ours,
it’s possible I will know them or know people who know them. I know
that this family is our neighbor in the figurative sense. My heart breaks for
everyone involved.
”
DFO: Daily, I wonder about the stories behind the snippets I post on the Police Scanner. Some of the one-line items are life-changing events. Accidents. Suicide attempts. Domestic disputes. Falls. Have you ever been involved in a Scanner Traffic item?
