Edit: Butch Back To Helping Rich Buds

At the Twin Falls Times News, opinion editor Jon Alexander opines: File this under Surprised No One: Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter is calling for tax cuts to benefit Idaho’s wealthiest and his biggest campaign backers. It’s the response from Republican lawmakers that’s more intriguing. Otter faces, what looks to be, substantial pushback from a slew of Republicans in the Legislature. Grab your popcorn. This could be good. Otter kicked off his “stay the course” tour last week — though many in his own party are still unsure eight years in where that course actually leads — at the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho’s annual conference. His “plan,” otherwise known as a giveaway to special interests, includes slashing the state’s income and corporate tax rates to below 7 percent. And, in an especially friendly group-hug to Idaho Association of Commerce & Industry, he also wants to throttle local governments by axing the personal property tax. More here.
