Huckleberries Online Turning 10
Huckleberries Online turns 10 next Sunday. I started my blog (
spokesman.com/hbo
) on Feb. 16, 2004, near the end of my 13 years on
the Spokesman-Review Editorial Board. I wanted to provide a conservative perspective on the 2004 presidential election. Sometime along the way, an invasion of uberconservatives pushed Kootenai County politics further to the right. I became a moderate or even a liberal in their Birchesque circles. Meanwhile, the blog kept evolving as a community source for news, opinion and slices of North Idaho life. Commenters came and went. Trolls were vanquished. I learned by trial and error how to control anonymous posters. I branched out to Twitter and Facebook, a newspaper dinosaur embracing the social media. The blog continued to attract attention. More than 11,000 readers follow Huckleberries Online now. The blog has averaged 2.5 million page views annually over the last three years/
