Huckleberries Online Turning 10

Huckleberries Online turns 10 next Sunday. I started my blog ( spokesman.com/hbo ) on Feb. 16, 2004, near the end of my 13 years on the Spokesman-Review Editorial Board. I wanted to provide a conservative perspective on the 2004 presidential election. Sometime along the way, an invasion of uberconservatives pushed Kootenai County politics further to the right. I became a moderate or even a liberal in their Birchesque circles. Meanwhile, the blog kept evolving as a community source for news, opinion and slices of North Idaho life. Commenters came and went. Trolls were vanquished. I learned by trial and error how to control anonymous posters. I branched out to Twitter and Facebook, a newspaper dinosaur embracing the social media. The blog continued to attract attention. More than 11,000 readers follow Huckleberries Online now.
