Kudos to disaster volunteers

As a disaster recovery specialist for Spokane Emergency Management, I would like to commend the work of the Rev. Mike Bullard (Feb. 15), the Rev. George Abrams and all who volunteer within our community. I worked closely with Abrams, United Methodist Committee on Relief, and Inland Northwest Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters after our devastating snowstorms in 2008-09.

Many aren’t familiar with the number of people who had damage to their homes, with no resources to make them safe and sanitary. This is where the long-term recovery group headed by Abrams assisted. Through UMCOR, the Long-Term Recovery Group was provided a caseworker. Other donations and volunteers helped these citizens restore their residences to a livable condition.

There was much more to the story, but today I want to commend VOAD and these two gentlemen for their ceaseless dedication to our community and others throughout the nation.
