Comment on timber sale

The Colville National Forest is proposing the North Fork Mill Creek A to Z timber sale. Mill Creek is a popular fishing stream. The sale is located in an area where the soils and wildlife habitat are sensitive to disturbance.

The sale area is 17,875 acres. There will be 5.7 square miles of logging units. Incredibly, Supervisor Laura Jo West plans to construct 34 miles of logging road. This is enough dirt road to stretch from Spokane to Coeur d’Alene.

West is accepting public scoping comments now. A hard copy of the scoping package will be mailed by contacting the Colville National Forest.

The information is also available online at the forest’s website on their projects page. The projects page can be accessed from the forest’s home page by clicking on “Land and Resource Management” located on the upper left of the home page. Then click on “Projects” in the same area after a few seconds. Then scroll down on the projects page until North Fork Mill Creek A to Z project comes up. Then click on that to access the project information.

The “Purpose-Need-and-Objectives” will give the mailing address and email address where comments should be sent.
