‘Add The Words’ Talks In Infancy
Discussions on a possible deal between gay rights advocates and religious conservatives are so new that the Legislature’s two leading Democratic proponents of Add the Words were in the dark until they read about such talks in the media. Senate Minority Caucus Chairwoman Cherie Buckner-Webb said she emailed Senate President Pro Tem Brent Hill on Wednesday to ask that she be included. “He responded that he’ll be in touch,” said Buckner-Webb, a Boise Democrat who is the lead Senate sponsor of a draft bill that would add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the Idaho Human Rights Act. The 1969 law prohibits discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin and disability/ Dan Popkey , Idaho Statesman.
