Dream Act grandstanding

When a person goes to university, all of their financial aid, federal loans, Pell Grant, scholarships, etc., are dumped into a single account. University bills are paid, and the student gets the remainder.

People who are not here legally do not have access to any federal sources of income so, unless Olympia’s version of the Dream Act doesn’t plan on paying all of the bills, then they won’t have to pay any bills. Universities will not let a student in without those bills being paid in full in advance.

The proposed $1,000 from a State Financial Aid Fund is not going to cut it, so the student will be turned away for lack of funding. This legislation is nothing more than grandstanding at the emotional expense of those who are not here legally.
