Letter: Hands Off Independence Point
Well, here we go again, we have a new mayor who is backpedaling on his campaign promises to maintain public access to the waterfront. Obviously his loyalty is with his old boss at the resort, who doesn’t want to view the cars and the public from his office. There is absolutely NO reason to remove the parking from that lot. For handicap, you just need to mark several spots as handicap only. From the picture in Sunday’s Press you have made it more difficult for handicapped to get to the beach. All you need to do is add a ramp for wheelchairs to the beach. By pushing the public away from the lake you have shown your true ignorance as to how to deal with public land/ Ron Dayton , Athol. More here.
Question: I go back and forth on this one. I oppose concrete on the waterfront. The property is too valuable. However, I realize that lot at Independence Point provides easy access to the waterfront for the handicapped. Is it possible for the city to provide shuttle service from nearby parking lots to take care of the problem caused by removal of the lot? Thoughts?
