State Sen. Michael Baumgartner appears to be seeking favor from his constituency by appealing to its basest instincts. Certainly, many conservative voters may disagree with the Washington Supreme Court’s recent position in demanding that the Legislature do its job in funding education.

But thoughtful conservatives as well as thinking progressives will all stop short of comparing our Supreme Court justices to the murderous Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe or Russian Premier Vladimir Putin.

Baumgartner’s recent tweet, “Supremes threaten to shut down all schools to improve education?”

Is it Mugabe or Putin advising strategy over there? It is inflammatory, disrespectful and certainly irresponsible.
