Wolf issue fabricated
Regarding Becky Kramer articles, “A study in survival” (June 1) and “Rules sought for conflict over wolves” (June 11).
Isn’t it amazing how special-interest groups can coerce elected officials into passing laws, so government can manage a fabricated problem? Problems dreamed up by wolf-loving groups to justify bogus programs that never go away or achieve resolution. How many wildlife biologists have a lifetime job and taxpayer-funded paychecks to manage these self-serving wolf recovery programs?
Perhaps groups like Kettle Range Conservation Group, Center for Biodiversity, the Sierra Club, Cascadia Wildlife, Western Environment Law Center, Wildlands Network and Gifford Pinchot Task Force should start paying all of the expenses of wolf recovery out of their own pocket. They could pay for cattle predation losses, range riders expenses (such as wages), equipment, travel, medical, etc.
Better yet, volunteer all of their time to administer the entire wolf program, “den-to-death.” If the travel distance to the job was prohibitive, they could import wolves into their own locales. They could have their very own wolves running around in Olympia and Seattle neighborhoods. Citizens could view them firsthand and hear the “call of the wild” right in their own backyard. Voila, problem solved.
