Clean up after dogs

The recent rapid warming and melting of snow-covered streets carried just a touch of spring in the air. Might the earliest of buttercups be emerging at Lincoln Park?

So with my pup, Rooney, I headed to the park to find not buttercups, but pile upon pile of exposed and now soft, slushy dog poop that accumulated over the course of the winter. So much dog poop that it made walking the paths, and even the paved loop around the pond, a fecal obstacle course. Though the winter accumulation is profuse, unsightly and, well, just plain messy for both humans and dogs, the dog poop issue at Lincoln Park is not specific to winter, as year-round many dog owners seem to think it’s just fine to leave their dog’s poop in the park.

Come on, dog owners. If you are responsible enough to get your dog out for a nice walk in the park, then be responsible enough to pick up their poop. Both the east and west ends of the paved loop have doggie bags provided at little kiosks, as well as garbage cans in which to toss the used bags.
