Kudos for Tolstoy article
Thank you for your May 15 article about Tolstoy Farms and its rebuilding project.
Every May, our family awaits with anticipation the opening of the Farmers Market on West Fifth Avenue. The spirit of the market makes it a festive community gathering place to greet friends and meet the local vendors.
For us, the ritual of picking up our “Certified Sustainable Agriculture” box from our Tolstoy Farms friends is a highlight of the summer.
Tucked in our box each week is not only an array of beautiful just-picked herbs and vegetables but also an informative newsletter educating us about current food issues and listing the box’s contents.
Often included is a description of an unfamiliar herb or vegetable with recipe suggestions on how to use it, encouraging us to taste something new.
Boxes not picked up on market day are donated where they can be dispersed to those in need.
We appreciate the many generous ways the farm gives to the community, and there is always a welcome invitation to visit the farm and enjoy the land that they tend and love.
Pictures of the flood devastation are dramatic, but we hope Tolstoy Farms will be fully restored.
