Stratton should’ve disclosed
It is curious that recently appointed Spokane City Council member Karen Stratton proclaims herself to have been honest about her new status as a marijuana farmer when she selectively chose to disclose that information only to her allies on the council who were considering her for the vacancy, while excluding the mayor, two other sitting members of the council, and the constituents she was chosen to represent.
Didn’t they deserve the same courtesy that was extended to her political benefactors?
During the candidate review process, Stratton had ample opportunity to make that disclosure, but deliberately chose not to do so, which suggests that she was, in fact, hiding her new enterprise until after her selection.
I suppose Stratton would like citizens to take comfort from her saying, “I’m not a user. It’s just not my thing.” I assume she is convinced we should all be grateful that she is just in it for the money and, like Bill Clinton, she never inhaled.
That said, Stratton seems to have successfully blown smoke over what should have been a more honest and transparent selection process to choose a member of the City Council.
