The Way We Were

Since this is No Shave November, I thought I’d roll out this photo that SR photog buddy Jesse Tinsley posted on his Facebook wall. The guy in the foreground is David Bender, a former Coeur d’Alene bureau employee who pursued a technical career with newspapers in the Minneapolis area. The guy in the back with all the beautiful black hair? Well, let’s say that I’ve grown a beard a couple of times during my adult life — the first time while I was in college. I don’t like the way they feel. And I’m too aware of the hair all over my face. I must have been 35-36 at the time (circa mid- to late ‘80s) — about the age my son is now. I do a goatee far better than a beard. I do a mustache best of all.
