S-R could be more

The Spokesman-Review’s Oct. 22 article “Ben Bradlee, Washington Post editor who led Watergate coverage, dies” mentions how Publisher Katharine Graham wanted to bring new life to the small town Washington Post, how Ben Bradlee brought in talented journalists and set the standards for the newspaper, and how it became a national newspaper.

Now, I am not the smartest guy around, but wasn’t it just a couple of generations ago that parents used The Spokesman-Review to educate their children on how to read, and schools used the paper in classes? So why is the paper losing readership? Lower journalist standards? Lack of intellectual honesty and dumbing down to the lowest common denominator? Lack of interest by the owners?

The Spokesman-Review could be so much more than it is today.
