Edit: Election Dept Should Seek Help
In face of the public criticism of the Kootenai County Election Department’s last-in-the-state count on Nov. 4, the Coeur d’Alene Press
editorializes in part: “First, it would be ideal for the county clerk and elections office officials to seek help in making the election night tally more fluid. Being last to report in the whole state is not a prideful distinction. We say that with the admitted motivation of wanting to deliver a more valuable newspaper to subscribers the next day, like we did for many years, but we also have heard from other citizens that the efficacy of the local elections staff and their processes are being questioned. That’s not good for anybody. The other thought is this: “Slow but accurate” might not be ideal, but it’s far better than “Dewey defeats Truman.”
