Excelsior article upsetting
In reference to the Oct. 24 article, “Police: Excelsior calls too often.”
As chair of the Balboa/South Indian Trail Neighborhood Council, my interaction with the youth of Excelsior has been very positive. Whenever the neighborhood has cleanups, which is twice a year, 20 or more students are there to dig in and do the work. I have come to know many of them as individuals with dreams and a strong desire to have a successful future. Many of them have come from unspeakable backgrounds, full of terror and abuse.
Poverty is not only about money. Poverty can be about a lack of self-respect and not being loved. I am saddened that this article was thought to be newsworthy, especially when all of the facts were not disclosed.
With all of the newsworthy stories happening in our region and around the northwest, it puzzles me why this one was printed. I want to believe The Spokesman-Review’s journalism is capable of providing its readers with a well-prepared, accurate article. Please prove me correct.
