Leaf Pickup Progressing Smoothly

As of Thursday afternoon, Coeur d’Alene street department crews had picked up leaves throughout the downtown/Sanders Beach area. Leaves in neighborhoods north of Sherman Avenue to Harrison Avenue and west to 11th have also been removed. Today, crews will begin moving westward from 15th Street to Lincoln Avenue and north to Harrison. During the first day of the Lake City’s leaf pick this year, crews hauled 92 loads totaling about 185 tons. Last year, during the same period and covering the same neighborhoods, 94 loads were collected weighing in at 299 tons. The difference, according to street superintendent Tim Martin: “2014 is cold and bone-dry; 2013 was sopping wet.” (Coeur d’Alene Today photo: Keith Erickson)
