St. Maries Council Rejects Invocations

The St. Maries city council will not begin meetings with a prayer. The council voted 3-2 against a resolution to open meetings with an invocation Monday night. The decision was not decided, however, until after Mayor Grubham and city attorney Nancy Wolff outlined the conditions for when it was proper for a councilman to abstain from voting. … The issue of councilmen abstaining from voting had come up at the last council meeting and others which prompted Mayor Grubham to have Mrs. Wolff look into the issue.
