Moby Dick + 163 Years

Today is the 163rd anniversary of the publishing of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick.” The Gothamist reports: “Herman Melville’s magnum opus, Moby Dick (or Moby-Dick , or The Whale … whichever you prefer) was published on November 14th, 1851. The author lived another forty years after publication, but during that time only 3,200 copies were sold. New York’s literary underground is where it was most appreciated in its earlier days, so it’s even more fitting that writers will be reading from the novel all over Manhattan this weekend , its 163rd anniversary.” More here.
