We’re all connected
For years I’ve considered myself not only an American citizen, but a citizen of the world. It can change one’s perspective. We are all connected. Lives across the globe affect us.
I was fortunate to see the “60 Minutes” program Nov. 9 about health care providers fighting Ebola in West Africa. A doctor said we should deal with the fight against this threat of a lethal virus overseas no different than we deal an overseas terrorist threat; to stop them before they get to our soil. This sure made a lot of sense to me. We should use our resources to fight both threats with equal vigor.
I found these people no less heroic than soldiers we send in harm’s way. In fact, they face a higher mortal threat. But it’s been quite the opposite. They endure scorn from the ignorant.
I think it is shameful how so many Americans gather under a blanket of fear and avoid realities and a pragmatic approach to resolution.
