Support WSU med school

My husband and I feel we need to weigh in on the debate over a Washington State University vs. University of Washington medical school in Spokane. Don’t be conned. The UW’s local newspaper and billboard ads are only public relations window dressing to make it appear like they care. They don’t want to share state funding.

Our son applied to UW three times and was rejected. He applied, and had no problem getting into, a medical school in Kentucky. He may never return to practice medicine in Washington.

Having only first-year medical students in Spokane does not benefit Spokane hospitals and clinics. First- and second-year medical students are only in the classroom. The third-year medical students get into the community medical facilities to learn and help.

We feel that the state of Washington has let us down as taxpayers by not funding enough medical students for the need. So, don’t fall for UW’s ads and rhetoric. WSU should be allowed to open a medical school in Spokane. Eastern Washington, in particular, needs more physicians. WSU cares about the people in Eastern Washington. They live here.
