Don’t want your guns
On Nov. 23, you published a letter from Curtis Stone on the subject of Initiative 594. But the supposition that “most Americans took the NRA’s advice to vote for ‘freedom first’ ” is in opposition to the popular vote. The state is not “leftist Washington, (where) voters have said that they don’t have a problem with government confiscating firearms,” but is rather an agreement with 70 percent of Stone’s brothers and sisters who are members of the National Rifle Association that proper registration is valid under the Constitution.
With due respect, the opinion presented is out of touch with the majority of NRA members (while the supporting gun manufacturers may differ). I don’t want your guns! You can keep saying that over and over and over, but it doesn’t make it any more real. I want peace in the streets. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre has dictated NRA policy in spite of his constituency.
I understand that nothing I say will change Stone’s mind, but I hope those reading this will realize Washington did something good in this election. If we voted in Republicans but accepted gun registration, isn’t that a telling message?
