Democrat for Haskell

The Spokane County prosecutor’s race is heating up. I urge people not to vote merely based on party preferences. As someone who supports liberal causes and as a person who identifies herself as a Democrat, I urge my fellow voters to look beyond the party designations of the candidates. I am a liberal who is proudly giving my vote to the Republican candidate in this race.

Larry Haskell is the man for the job, hands down. Having worked with him, I know he will take the office in the direction that the community needs and will be an active leader. All of the buzzwords like “smart justice” being thrown about are already being utilized in our county. Look deeper than buzzwords and you will see therapeutic courts and jail alternatives used often for loss-risk offenders.

What the community needs is someone who has done the job, who knows when to use alternatives and when to use incarceration. The idea of a carrot without a stick is great in theory, but in reality, it only hurts our community as a whole. Violators need to be held appropriately accountable, and only someone with Haskell’s record can do that, regardless of party affiliation.
