Brannon Waiting For 9th Circuit
Kootenai County Clerk Jim Brannon called Huckleberries this afternoon to say that he is waiting for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal to hand
down a writ of mandate re: gay marriage. Brannon said he was in a meeting this afternoon when he received word of that the U.S. Supreme Court had removed the stay granted to Idaho after the 9th Circuit declared the state’s ban on gay marriage unconstitutional. Brannon said he contacted the county’s legal department afterward. The county clerk has said that he will follow the dictates of the court re: granting marriage licenses to same-sex couples, adding that no same-sex couples had come to the recorder’s office this afternoon, seeking a license.
