Not a voice for women
I write to urge Carolyn Williams (Sept. 27), and women and men like her, to begin taking their information about Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers from the Congressional Record rather than campaign materials, as they are apparently doing.
In her letter, Williams contends that McMorris Rodgers is “a strong voice for women” and “supports legislation that helps with child care (and) equal pay.”
McMorris Rodgers actually voted against the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the Children’s Health Care Reauthorization and Employment Discrimination Law Amendments; hardly positions benefiting women or children. Further, she voted to strip funding from Planned Parenthood, denying women access to birth control, which not only makes abortion less likely but actually supports them in making choices about their lives, something Williams says the GOP is keen on allowing women to do.
If you are interesting in empowering women, check out Joe Pakootas. The first issue on his website is equal pay for equal work, an issue McMorris Rodgers apparently thinks isn’t important enough for which to vote.
