Loved special ed feature

What a pleasurable way to start Sept. 30, reading about Michael Anderson Elementary School’s success with special education students.

It was my privilege to work in Medical Lake School District for 29 years with special needs students, as a paraeducator, beginning with Interlake School and Lakeland Village, Blair Elementary (Fairchild Air Force Base’s former elementary school) and finally Medical Lake High School. This gave me a wide range of experience, both with students and staff members.

The district is truly blessed in having Ann Everett serving as special education director. I worked with her closely for nine years at the high school, and Everett is on the best-of-best list. It appears Everett and Michael Anderson Elementary Principal Darlene Starr are a perfect match as team leaders. Everett is completely genuine. She is a gift to district special education, as well as a gift to all who know her.

One more thing that added to my own pride was the front-page picture of a paraeducator working with a special student, thus showing the vital role paraeducators also play in student success. Thanks for the very positive article concerning special education.
