Assess the critic

The web article referred to in Kevin Best’s letter to the editor (“Don’t reward assessor” – Oct. 19) was written by former Assessor Ralph Baker and Best when Best worked at the Spokane County Assessor’s Office. It was Best’s responsibility to answer public records requests.

The article was displayed on the website from 2007 to November 2010. The records request was made in January 2010. Best was employed by the Assessor’s Office during this time. Apparently, Best now believes he should have provided the article to the requester.

My office produced the information under a different request. Best should re-read his letter to the editor and substitute his name where my name appears.
