Park needs work

Vote yes for the Riverfront Park Bond – without a tax rate increase.

Although the park and its setting possess a timeless beauty, many of the facilities are outdated, have fallen into disrepair and, in some cases, been forced to close. Decaying infrastructure, including bridges and power, mechanical and irrigation systems, can no longer be ignored.

Riverfront Park was not designed for its current popularity. Hoopfest, Bloomsday, Pig Out in the Park, Unity in the Community, Aids Network and Muscular Dystrophy Association are part of the growing list of events at Riverfront.

The citizens of Spokane deserve a great urban park that is safe, accessible and carefully blends activities and events with more green space that showcases the river and falls.

For the few who think it lacks creativity or there’s not a wow, go to www.riverfrontparkmasterplan.org and see the exciting plans we can say yes to.

On the economic side: For every $1 million spent in construction, 11 new jobs are created. For every $1 spent, our city receives $1.99 in new economic activity.

Voting yes on this bond will have an economic infusion not seen in 40 years. We can do this without a tax rate increase. Vote yes.
