Police double standard

I was not surprised to read in the Sept. 3 Spokesman-Review that Lt. Matthew Cowles received a slap on the wrist for a reckless driving and racing incident in March. It seems that in Spokane, a law officer is exempt from the same rules that the rest of us live by.

In Spokane, it is apparently OK to take pot shots in a neighborhood at a guy stealing your truck (Shonto Pete), or shoot a business owner in his own parking lot (Rev. Wayne Scott Creach). And now, if you want to race your Corvette down Interstate 90, that is OK as well. Pay a $75 fine and promise to be a good boy for six months. What a joke!

To the rest of us citizens who fund the police departments with our tax dollars (and traffic fine dollars), this is a totally unacceptable situation. Where is the leadership in the Spokane Police Department to put an end to this unacceptable double standard?
