Thanks for ALS column

Doug Clark fans or not, this letter is not about his beautiful wife, Sherry, and their insect invasion, or his gas-guzzling Vista Cruiser. It’s about his Aug. 26 column on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and the ice bucket challenge.

Our son, Steve, was diagnosed with ALS about the same time as Steve Gleason. He watched the progress, or lack of it, with Gleason. After 17 months of progressive misery, he opted to stay in bed with no food or liquids the first week of July 2012. A few days later, on Friday the 13th, his faint smile, voice and sparkling eyes left family and friends to be with his Lord. We love you, Steve.

Clark brings to Spokane columns about worthy local events for caring and deserving citizens. Thank you!
