Investigate McMorris Rodgers

In early August, we received a glossy, expensive, lengthy mailer in color from incumbent Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers. It was a widely distributed campaign document so loaded with errors in fact, dishonesty and inaccuracies that numerous letters to the editor have been published in The Spokesman-Review in complaint.

My purpose is not to reiterate these criticisms, as they are part of the record. Instead, I recount my disbelief and disgust in reading in the mailer that “the mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.” These acts look illegal.

Last February, the nonpartisan Office of Congressional Ethics recommended an investigation of McMorris Rodgers for “improper mixing of campaign and official funds.” Internet access enables learning much about McMorris Rodgers through Google. For instance, under campaign financing law in the United States, it is stated that public funding is limited to subsidies for presidential campaigns.

I suggest that the Federal Election Commission look into possible violations of the law. It is time to replace McMorris Rodgers with an independent-minded, intelligent, honest individual who has had no part in our dysfunctional House of Representatives. Please consider voting for Joe Pakootas.
