NFL bullies spotlighted
It’s hard to imagine anything good or positive about spousal abuse. It’s a foul, reprehensible and repulsive behavior for which there is no excuse.
That having been said, there is something good developing from numerous NFL players being thrown into the national news spotlight for abusing their wives and sweethearts lately. Let’s not forget O.J. Simpson.
What’s good? The NFL is being forced, very publicly, to face the fact that these athletes are no less than professional bullies. Drilled in practice and game to force their will upon their opponents physically and verbally. The new public awareness is forcing the NFL into dealing with the problem of these bullies taking their jobs home with them and knocking their spouses out cold. Or worse. Again, let’s not forget O.J. Simpson.
If the NFL is really serious about dealing with this issue honestly, and if the public and news media insist on these changes by keeping the pressure on, then maybe these athletes can be helped to leave the job on the job. To switch off the bully, and to just go home and be husbands and fathers without the bluster and crush mentality.
