Kraft ignored Palestinian values
Wayne Kraft (April 1) berates the shared values between Israel and the United States in the wake of the re-election of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But he ignores the “shared values” of the Palestinians who align themselves with Hamas and want nothing more than to push the Jews into the sea.
Kraft doesn’t voice his outrage with Syrian President al-Assad killing hundreds of thousands of his own people, or the blatant anti-Semitic curriculum taught to Arab elementary schoolchildren. He ignores the Israeli effort to find a partner for peace.
Let’s move past the rhetoric and discuss the reality of a two-state solution. Israel left Gaza and, rather than making it a model infrastructure for what could be, Hamas (elected by the Palestinian majority) has done nothing but wage war.
If Gaza is the vision for the future, how can Israel consider a two-state solution without the guarantee of security and peace? Israel is the only democracy in the Mideast with freedom of speech and press, with protection of minorities, including gays. So long as the Palestinians align themselves with Hamas, it can be assumed that the Palestinians don’t have an interest in peace or our democratic ideals.
