ISIS not a true state

Regarding “Boko Haram aligns with Islamic State” (March 8):

In my opinion, this sends a bad message to the world, especially when it isn’t a true state. The definition of a state is a body of people, living in a defined territory, with the power to make and enforce laws, and with an organization to do this.

ISIS does have population, territory and government, but not sovereignty. In order to be a state or country, you must have all four.

ISIS doesn’t have the ability to absolute rule within a territory, a territory considered equal to that of sovereign states. And ISIS hasn’t decided on a foreign policy with other states. There are just Islamic terrorists trying to take control due to religious views and claiming that all Islamic people should do the same.

Not all Islamic people want to chop heads off or hurt anyone. The fact of using the term Islamic State will only increase ISIS’s power and hurt the Islamic people who are not part of ISIS.
