Malek: Integrity of Process Important
Rep. Luke Malek (RE: Luker: We wanted to go home ): The integrity of the process is the only thing that keeps disasters like the child support vote from happening more frequently. A desire to go home was NOT the reason we voted to protect the committee, despite the terrible mistake it had made. We voted to protect the committee because committees serve a tremendously important role in protecting Idahoans from a plethora of terrible ideas. As badly as many of us wanted to pull that bill out of the committee and undo the damage of the nine, the damage to the integrity of the committee process would have been exponentially more detrimental to Idahoans.
DFO: I know we civilians would like to dismiss what Luke is saying here, such is our outrage over the Child Support services bill vote by the House Judiciary & Rules Committee. But I suspect that he understands better than us re: what was at stake procedurally. OTOH, this might have been one of those times to thumb your noses at the House GOP leadership responsible for this situation. Thoughts?
